44 graus Celsius abaixo de zero

A NOAA acaba de anunciar mais um recorde de temperaturas negativas nos EUA. Esta organização estatal dos EUA (equivalente a um instituto de meteorologia) relata o acontecimento deste modo:
“Widespread bitter cold temperatures hit the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and North-eastern states today. The National Weather Service at Bismarck, North Dakota, reports that the temperature dropped to 44 degrees below zero this morning [1/15/2009] at 7:34 am CST . This broke the record low of 36 degrees below zero set on January 15, 1971. Snow cover is visible in this GOES-12 satellite image [1/15/2009, 17:45 UTC].”
Já ontem a SIC anunciava a possibilidade de as temperaturas chegarem aos 40 graus Celsius negativos nesta região.
